James Miller

Having studied History of Art at Manchester University, James Miller entered Sotheby's where (over a period of 30 years) he headed the British Print Department, British Watercolours, then The British Paintings before becoming Deputy Chairman where he was responsible for Country House Sales.  His career in that area commenced at Mentmore and included the sales at Castle Howard, The Leverhulme Collection at Thornton Manor, and latterly at Easton Neston and Chatsworth.

James has also published on country houses such as the catalogue of the Lansdowne Pictures at Bowood.  Since retiring from Sotheby's he has run his own Fine Art Consultancy as well as being the author of Fertile Fortune - The History of Tynesfield, and presenting Hidden Treasure Houses on television.  He and his wife Mary live in Northamptonshire where he is a Deputy Lieutenant with particular responsibilities for cultural activity in the county.
