Infamous and talented, Artemisia Gentileschi (despite her torrid private life) enjoyed a long and successful career as a painter, spanning more than 40 years; and she was the first woman to gain membership to the artists’ academy – the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno – in Florence. Works from public and private collections around the world come together at the National Gallery to give a vivid overview of her career: training in Rome, time spent in Florence, then the last 25 years of her life during which she set up a studio in Naples and spent time in London, nursing her painter father, Orazio. £79; Art Fund Member £72; National Gallery Member £64
